You still work a full-time job, but you also have a side hustle. You decided to create an LLC for your business. Your business made $20,000, and you took a $10,000 salary. Combined with your regular paycheck, you brought in $59,000. In addition to itemized deductions, you have another tax advantage coming your way. While you still report your business income of $20,000, you only pay employment taxes on your salary instead of the entire amount of business income.
If hypotheticals don’t convince you, look at last year’s tax return. Crunch the numbers again with and without these deductions. Then, compare your results. There’s a good chance your tax liabilities just became tax refunds.

If your loss is greater than your income from other sources, you can take a deduction. However, your deduction is limited to the amount of your income.
What about that extra money you weren’t able to deduct? You can actually carry over the loss into future tax years. Carrying a loss forward can reduce your taxable income for a significant amount of time depending on its magnitude.
